Emma Raducanu’s Italian Open campaign took an unexpected turn after Ekaterina Alexandrova withdrew due to a shoulder injury. The British star will now face lucky loser Jil Teichmann, ranked 96, instead of the world No. 22.

Teichmann enters the match after a qualifying loss, while Raducanu reached the second round with a hard-fought three-set win over Maya Joint. Despite leading by a set and a break, Raducanu was pushed to a decider.

The 22-year-old, still adjusting her coaching setup, is working informally with Mark Petchey and Jane O’Donoghue. Concerns have been raised about the long-term viability of her evolving support team.
