During the tournament, former MLB star Derek Lowe came to Nelly Korda’s aid when a fan awkwardly proposed to her on the ninth hole. Without hesitation, Lowe quickly diffused the situation, ensuring Korda didn’t have to respond, a gesture she later appreciated.

Speaking after Round 2, Korda acknowledged the moment, stating she doesn’t receive random proposals often. She expressed gratitude for Lowe’s quick intervention, recalling his response: “Not too often, but D Lowe shut him right down,” showcasing his supportive presence on the course.

Korda, grouped with golf legend Annika Sorenstam and Lowe, remained silent when the incident occurred. Lowe, however, took charge, humorously addressing the fan by saying, “Bud, I think that was a no.” His intervention helped keep the focus on the game.
