Lowry later blamed an ESPN reporter for interfering in a crucial ruling, claiming the reporter tried to influence a decision meant for the rules official. The incident, he said, added to his frustration during an already tense round.

Lowry emphasized he wasn’t seeking unfair relief but wanted clarity amid high stakes. Despite missing the cut, he remains optimistic, especially with The Open returning to Royal Portrush—where he claimed his major title.
