Chelsea’s star forward, Sam Kerr, has been named in the squad for the Women’s Champions League knockout rounds, signaling her potential return to action after a 15-month absence. The 31-year-old has been recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in early 2024.

Despite this milestone, Chelsea coach Sonia Bompastor urged caution, emphasizing that Kerr’s return should not be rushed. She highlighted the unpredictable nature of ACL recovery, stressing the need for a step-by-step approach to ensure the striker regains full fitness. Chelsea will face Manchester City in the quarter-finals next week.

Kerr’s absence has also impacted the Australian national team, which has struggled in her absence. The Matildas, now ranked 16th globally, are preparing for upcoming friendlies against South Korea. While Kerr is making progress, her return to international football remains uncertain as she continues her rehabilitation.
