The LPGA has announced new rules to address slow play, set to take effect in March. These regulations aim to improve the pace of play by introducing fines and stroke penalties for players who exceed designated time limits. Slow play has long been a concern in both amateur and professional golf, affecting the overall experience for players and spectators.

The PGA Tour has tried solutions like allowing rangefinders, but the LPGA is taking a stricter approach. Under the new rules, players exceeding the allowed time by 6-15 seconds will receive a one-stroke penalty, while those taking 16+ seconds will face a two-stroke penalty. Additional allowances for first-to-hit players on certain holes have also been revised.

In 2024, the previous policy led to fines for 22 players and penalties for nine. Under the updated system, 23 players would have received a one-stroke penalty, and eight would have faced a two-stroke penalty. The LPGA insists the goal is to encourage faster play rather than impose harsh penalties.

Top players, including Nelly Korda and Charley Hull, have voiced concerns about slow play and support stricter enforcement. With these new measures, the LPGA hopes to enhance the game’s pace. The effectiveness of the policy will be tested when it debuts at the Ford Championship in March.
