Golf fans got creative this Halloween, with two children winning hearts by dressing up as Scottie Scheffler and his arresting officer. The costumes reenacted a real-life incident from earlier in the year when Scheffler, the World No. 1 golfer, was briefly detained at the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Course.
The playful nod to the event saw one child in an orange jumpsuit labeled βSchefflerβ while the other wore a police uniform, handcuffing the “golfer.” The clever Halloween idea brought levity to an otherwise serious incident, capturing the attention of social media and fans alike.
Schefflerβs arrest occurred in May 2024, following a tragic accident near the golf course that resulted in heavy traffic. Rushing to make his tee time, Scheffler was stopped by police after allegedly moving forward during a chaotic situation. An officer was reportedly injured when Scheffler’s car dragged him, though the golfer explained that he was following directions from the police at the time.
Scheffler was briefly taken into custody but was released in time to compete in the tournament, later clarifying that the entire incident was a misunderstanding. The case was closed due to insufficient evidence.
Despite the controversy, Schefflerβs arrest became a lighthearted topic among fans. During the PGA Championship, some spectators showed their support by wearing t-shirts printed with Schefflerβs mugshot and slogans like βFree Scottie.β Schefflerβs strong performance in the tournament, finishing tied for eighth, seemed to overshadow the arrest. Fans turned what could have been a low point in the golferβs career into an amusing moment, with the Halloween costumes further cementing the incident as a memorable part of the 2024 PGA season.
