Renowned CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz has revealed his plan to retire as the lead voice of the Masters in 2036. Having called the prestigious tournament since 1989, Nantz shared his exit strategy in an interview with *Bunkered*, stating that April 14, 2036, would be his ideal retirement date. If all goes as planned, the 2036 Masters will be his final broadcast, coinciding with the event’s 100th anniversary.

By the time he steps away, Nantz will have covered 47 Masters tournaments, cementing his legacy as one of golf’s most iconic voices. His decision follows his 2023 retirement from college basketball’s Final Four, which he left to focus on family and other broadcasting commitments. In addition to the Masters, Nantz continues to cover the PGA Championship and PGA Tour events, remaining a central figure in sports broadcasting.

While CBS operates the Masters on a year-to-year contract, Nantz remains open to the possibility of extending his career. Reflecting on the future, he acknowledged the unpredictability of retirement, noting that some broadcasters have continued well into their 80s. Whether he sticks to his planned exit or stays on longer, his impact on golf broadcasting is undeniable.
