Jordan Spieth recently addressed the Player Equity Program during a press conference ahead of the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The PGA Tour event begins on May 2, and Spieth spoke about the mixed reactions from players regarding the program’s rollout and implications.

The PGA Tour introduced the Player Equity Program last month, allocating $930 million among 193 players. Equity amounts vary depending on performance and tenure on the PGA Tour, leading to diverse reactions among players. Spieth noted that some players were pleasantly surprised by their allocations, while others felt left out.

Spieth mentioned the program’s complexity, expressing that many players find it confusing. He emphasized the need for PGA Tour officials to clarify the details, especially concerning vesting and tax implications, as these are areas players aren’t typically familiar with.

The program categorizes players into four groups. The top 36 players, based on five years of performance, receive $750 million. The next two groups, comprising 121 players, share $105 million. Meanwhile, 36 past legends are allotted a $75 million equity share, recognizing their contributions to the tour’s history.
