Justin Thomas had a challenging start at Valhalla, carding a 2-over 73 in Round 1. Early mistakes, including a double bogey and multiple dropped shots, pushed him to 4-over through six holes.

He recovered slightly on the back nine, securing four birdies and limiting damage with just one bogey. Despite the improved finish, a missed par putt on 18 left him at 2-over overall.

Thomas now trails leader Jhonattan Vegas by nine strokes. Vegas shot a superb 64, with Ryan Gerard and Cam Davis close behind at 5-under, followed by a group tied at 4-under.
