The 2025 Masters Tournament began with high anticipation and fierce competition at Augusta National. While several top players surged ahead in the first round, others have found themselves in jeopardy of missing the weekend.

As of Friday morning, the projected cut line stands at two over par, narrowing the field to the top 50 performers. Among those currently outside this threshold are some surprising and seasoned contenders, facing the real possibility of an early exit.

Former Masters champion Jordan Spieth headlines this group, struggling with bogeys and a costly double bogey that placed him just over the projected cut line despite five eagles. Nick Dunlap, the 2024 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, had a disastrous outing, with multiple bogeys and double bogeys leaving him a staggering 18-over-par. Likewise, Phil Mickelson, a three-time Masters winner, and Adam Scott, in his 24th appearance, both posted disappointing rounds that may end their 2025 campaigns prematurely.

Dustin Johnson, the 2020 green jacket holder, also finds himself in a precarious position. After shooting two over in the opening round and starting the second round with early bogeys, he’s now three over par—just outside the current cut line.

With one round remaining before the cut becomes official, these five players, including major champions and rising stars, are under intense pressure to recover quickly or risk missing out on Masters weekend drama.
